Waiting for that Bingo Number
You could probably hear the Bingo announcer yelling this line "any number?" or something similar every time you enter a bingo hall, right? Furthermore, do you see how the people respond to the teaser? Most of the time, the mood is said to be lively, happy and interactive. However, why do you think everybody seems happy while playing bingo even though only a few wins? What does bingo have?
Like lottery, bingo is a game of luck, where all participants wish that every drawn out number is in their cards and is in the required pattern. The size and feature of a bingo card depends on the number of balls to be used in a game.
For example, in the traditional bingo game, wherein it uses 75 balls the letters B - I - N - G - O serve as the headings of a particular column. Then there are five rows across each column forming a 5 x 5 table or matrix. On most cards the middlemost cell, (meaning the intersection of the 3rd column and the 3rd row) is marked as free. However, if you play it online or in a commercialized bingo plaza, that cell could have number inside.
So how are the numbers arranged on a bingo card? Since, it uses 75 balls and then there are five headings (as represented by the letters of the game itself) each cell in a column will have 15 randomly inserted numbers. Traditionally the numbers 1 to 15 are placed under the letter B, 16 to 30 under "I," 31 to 45 under "N," 46 to 60 for G and 61 to 75 for "O."
How does the bingo announcer reveal the number from the picked ball? First, the anchor says the letter and then the number such as B - 1, O - 69, N - 34. However, he might use flavored text (such as idioms, personalities, characters, events associated with a particular number) in order to create a festive mood. For example, the announcer might say "I - MJ's Number 23" instead of telling I -23 or "I - Christmas" instead of I - 25 and so on.
"Hey, I have formed a pattern already, what's next?" Good for you, all you need is to shout, "BINGO!" until the announcer or a spotter acknowledges you. If the organizers or the host doesn't seem to hear or see you it will better if you go directly and politely to the host. As much as possible, once the winning number is called immediately try to get their attention.
Okay? So off you go to play Bingo!
